Real Madrid Coach Manuel Pellegrini Pleased With Solid Performance Against Marseille

Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini thought his team produced a solid performance in defeating Marseille 3-1 at the Stade Velodrome.

Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, including a stunning first half free-kick, and one from central defender Raul Albiol ensured that Los Merengues finished top of UEFA Champions League Group C.

"We could have finished first [in the group] with a draw, but we won, we scored three goals and produced a solid performance. There is little difference between how we play at the Bernabeu and how we do away. We never surrender the initiative to the opposition," Pellegrini said afterwards, according to AS.

The Chilean also remarked that Madrid have achieved their objective after a busy couple of months and now can field a more consistent first eleven with less games coming up in the coming months.

"We knew in October and November we would play six or seven games each month. In December, however, there are fewer games and it is easier to repeat the lineup," he remarked.

"We still have to improve and we will do so in January and February, because our elimination from the Copa del Rey has left us many weeks off."
